So far, I’ve only been featuring quick and easy weeknight recipes from my fellow parents, but I’ve decided to branch out to those without kids as well. I also thought it would be fun to include recipes that aren’t just meant for dinner. My friend Rob (husband to the director of Seraphic Fire with whom I’ve sung with in Miami) recently started a blog called “The Perfect Pie Crust” and all the pictures he posts on Facebook make my mouth water. As someone who isn’t the most adept baker in the world, I am in awe of his beautiful creations. I’ve always had a fascination with hand-held pies, so asked him if he would be willing to come up with a recipe for us all to try out, and did he ever! I can’t wait to try some out for picnics this summer!
My favourite instagram accounts are ones that leave me happy or hungry. Lila’s beautiful account leaves me feeling both! Lila (@iamalila) is a lifestyle photographer and mother of twins, though her account seems to focus on her love of food and eating. From smoothie bowls, to tacos, to homemade soups, her account is full of beautiful inspiration! I knew she would come up with something yummy for my Friends with Recipes series, and I was right! This super simple recipe looks too yummy not to try.
Jessica was one of the first people to respond to my request for recipes when I started this series a few months ago. I don’t know her personally, but I love that she took the initiative to send me her favourite weeknight recipe! I think it is so fun to be able to feature meals that families around the world are cooking!
Jessica is a full-time working mama at a large bank in Milan. She said she has to be extra organised to get dinner on the table during the week. This easily adaptable quiche recipe is one of her favourite ways to make it happen!
Time for another “Friends with Recipes” post! This one is from my IG friend Amy who is one of the most thoughtful and creative mamas out there. We’ve never met in person, but I can tell you from seeing her pictures every day for the last three (or so) years that she is incredibly crafty, an excellent braider (check out her #hairenvywithavery hashtag!), and she likes to eat well. She is also a very real and genuine mama who goes over and above to make life awesome for her kids. I find her account so inspiring. (Keep an eye out for their annual summer “to-do” list. I’m still trying to work up enough energy to make one of our own!).
All of that is to say that I knew Amy would come up with a great recipe for us, and indeed she did!
Greek Chicken Gyros with Avocado Dill Spread – Amy Holgerson
Hi. I am Amy, Mama to 2 kiddies, wifie to one dude, and all around wannabe domestic goddess. You can find me on IG over sharing under the handle @bugbeansmomma.
When Bethie asked if I would be into sharing a recipe, I was very excited. Then we started a two week flooring remodel project. Living without a stove for two weeks can really put a damper on my wannabe domestic goddess routine. But last night I got to cook my first meal since getting our stove back in. I decided to take my Greek chicken I already have on rotation and put a little twist on it. So with that said, here is my Greek chicken gyro with a creamy avocado dill spread.
Vanessa and I have been friends on Instagram for years, but only finally managed to meet up for a coffee a few weeks ago here in London (she now lives in Scotland!). Vanessa loves cooking for and with her kids (her Instagram feed is full of all sorts of yummy things!) so she was an obvious one to ask for a recipe for my “Friends with Recipes” series.
Vanessa is sharing a healthy and delicious side dish that she and her family return to over and over again. It is a versatile side dish that will transform a simple piece of fish (or meat, shellfish, etc.) into a proper dinner.
Leeks and Greens with Coconut Milk – Vanessa Gerbrandy
This week’s “Friends with Recipes” post is from yet another of the many lovely people I have met through Instagram. Aleid was sweet enough to come say hit to me at an event last year and we had a great time chatting (mostly about toddlers and #froobs). I’m a sucker for interesting, fun, positive people, so when she asked about submitting a recipe that ties into her new art blog, I couldn’t say no!
I love the creativity behind this gorgeous meal, and the two salads offered below are a perfect addition to a light, tapas style dinner (my favourite kind of meal!). I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
A Duo of Inspired Spanish Salads – Aleid Farnum-Ford
Emily is another lovely lady I connected with via Instagram. Her feed is full of pictures of her adorable kids (Maggie- 3 and Finn- 10months) on various adventures, and also features her stunning paper cutouts! Emily kindly agreed to share her favourite weeknight meal with us and it looks delicious! I will definitely be adding this to a meal plan soon!
Salmon Fishcakes with Leek and Carrot – Emily Hogarth
I met my friend Nomi on Instagram three or so years ago. I have no idea how we found each other, but we became immediate friends and have enjoyed getting to know each other both online and in person. (In fact, she arrives with her daughter later today to stay with us in London for a few nights! I can’t wait!). Nomi’s Instagram account is full of unbelievably lovely pictures of her outings with her beautiful family, yummy food, and creative projects. Definitely worth checking out. In the meantime, here is her contribution to “Friends with Recipes”!
Welcome to our first edition of Friends with Recipes! My friend Sarah owns an absolutely gorgeous online children’s shop called Archie’s Boutique. In addition to being super stylish and uber cool, she is also a super sweet mama to two beautiful boys. Teatime at her house is always delicious, so I thought she would be perfect to start off our series! (That, and she was the one who made me start this blog in the first place, so it was easy to convince her to join in the fun.)
Here is Sarah’s favourite family dinner! I can’t wait to give it a try!
When I was three-years-old, a new family moved into the house right next to ours. As luck would have it they went to the same church as us, had their kids enrolled in the same parochial school that my siblings attended, and best of all, they had a daughter my age! But that was just the tip of the iceberg: they also happened to be the most wonderful, fun, welcoming family I’ve ever met. It didn’t take long for me to invite myself to be their fourth child.
