Greek Hungerpot

I’ve been planning this Greek hungerpot in my head for months and finally got around to it last week! I am happy to announce that it was lovely and delicious and as easy as pie to make.

Also, I can’t post these pictures without gushing over my new red cast iron pot!! My lovely husband surprised me with it and I am in love (with both him and the pot). I’ve been using an old one that I bought off a neighbour 100 years ago and it was really starting to look tired. I get excited every time I pull this new one out!


  • 500g (4-5 cups) pasta (I used "ditaloni")
  • 500ml water
  • 500ml whole milk
  • 1 bullion cube (or substitute prepared stock and leave out the water)
  • half an onion, chopped
  • 1 red pepper, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 yellow pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of dried oregano
  • 2 big handfuls of spinach
  • 200g of feta cheese, crumbled
  • garnish: chopped kalamata olives, sprinkling of smoked paprika, hummus
  • suggested side dish: chopped tomato and cucumber salad topped with a spoonful of hummus
  • salt and pepper to taste



-add all ingredients (save the spinach, feta, and garnish) into a large pot


-cook over low heat whilst stirring often


-once pasta is al dente, stir in the spinach


-then stir in feta (saving a bit to sprinkle on top if desired)


-serve with chopped tomato and cucumber salad topped with hummus
