Honey, Garlic Chicken

I am not a very big chicken fan, so when I find a chicken recipe I actually like (like this one!!) it becomes a regular part of our routine as my kids LOVE chicken! They particularly like “chicken on the bone” (drumsticks). I personally dislike drumsticks because all the flavour ends up on the skin, and I don’t eat the skin, so it ends up being quite bland. These drumsticks, however, have no skin so the flavour goes straight through to the meat. They also marinate all day, so that doesn’t hurt things either. 😉

This recipe was inspired by this version, but I’ve simplified and doubled the sauce and added more garlic.

The only slightly fussy thing about this recipe is pulling the skin off the chicken. Using a paper towel to grip the skin (as suggested in the original recipe) makes it much easier indeed. Once this is done, you can just put the chicken back in the container it came in and pour the marinade right over. Done and done.

Honey Garlic Chicken

Print Recipe
Serves: 4

  • 12 chicken drumsticks, skin removed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 6 cloves of garlic, finely minced (I used a garlic press)

Combine all marinade ingredients and pour over chicken

Let marinade for at least four hours (I usually prep this in the morning and let it soak all day)

When ready, cook at 200° C (400° F)

Check chicken every 10 minutes or so and baste the chicken with more sauce

The chicken will cook between 30-40 minutes or when cooked through

Serve with rice to soak up all the extra sauce This is delicious with broccoli as it picks up the sauce so well, but I like mine with a salad as it reminds me of the teriyaki shops in Seattle!
